Leonardo AI alternatives
Leonardo AI needs an account, its free-plan images are public, and its terms give Leonardo ownership of free outputs. These six alternatives handle those points differently: some need no account, some keep images private by default, and some are paid tools with more features.

What to check before you leave Leonardo AI
Mainly the images and tokens you already have there. Leonardo's own pages set out the rules for both.
- Its FAQ says deleting generated images needs a paid plan, which matters if images you made on the free plan are public. (source)
- If you've used free-plan images commercially, that rests on the license in its pricing FAQ: both that FAQ and its terms say Leonardo owns them. (sources: 1, 2)
- Free tokens don't carry over from one day to the next, so there's no free balance to use up before you go. (source)
- Unused paid tokens can build up in a rollover bank worth up to three months, so check it before you cancel. (source)
- After tokens run out, Premium and Ultimate keep generating more slowly on selected models such as Lucid Origin and Phoenix. Midjourney's Relax mode, on Standard and higher plans, and Ideogram's paid plans also keep going at a slower pace. (sources: 1, 2, 3)
How we chose
We picked tools that, like Leonardo, make images from text in a browser, and that differ from it on at least one of the reasons above. Canva is included even though it owns Leonardo, because its generator is a separate product inside its design editor.
These facts come from each tool's own pages; we haven't tested the tools side by side. Tool names are trademarks of their owners; we aren't affiliated with them. How we compare
Questions
Is there a Leonardo AI alternative without sign-up?
Yes. AIPhoto-Generator gives 3 free images with no account, and DeepAI, Perchance and Raphael AI also say you can start without one.
Which of these keep free images private?
Going by each tool's own pages, Adobe Firefly saves to your generation history and only publishes what you submit, NightCafe keeps creations private until you publish (a new user's first few may appear in its newbie feed), and AIPhoto-Generator has no gallery. Ideogram's free images are public.
Is Canva the same as Leonardo AI?
No, but they're connected: Leonardo.Ai calls itself a Canva brand, and Canva says Leonardo technology powers its Dream Lab generator.
